BLOG: NEW BEGINNINGS…

May 5th 2023 : Written by Vicky
Hello, welcome to our new blog and website.
Well you have joined us on a very exciting day indeed: handmade bunting is hung up, our bed is full of wrapping paper, breakfast crumbs and a very excited little dude who has joined us for cuddles much earlier than normal… Yes its birthday time and our little man Lerryn is now 3!

This is an important reason to start the blog today, because it was Lerryn who inspired this big change!
I hope you enjoy learning more about our journey ‘from Lexis Place to Bear & Pickle’

To be completely honest I felt a little ‘lost’ since the birth of our son Lerryn during lockdown. Personally and work wise. I hit the big FORTY and that felt like the time to make steps to a happier me.

I completely changed my hairstyle, gave my wardrobe a brutal clear out, made plans for a Viking inspired tattoo and I go to bed much earlier to reset my mind and body. We’ve made it a mission to book at least one thing every year from now on that we have always wanted to do. (We chose to book a magical trip to ‘Bewilderwood’ later this year and can’t wait to have fun in the treetops)

So business wise. For those who have followed me from the beginning-you will know that I started Lexis Place making hair accessories (ten years ago) after the birth of our daughter Lexi. Over time I added illustrations to my gift range, I also used to do a lot of logo branding for small businesses. I visited fairs all over in Hertfordshire, you may have even found me at one of them? Much has changed over time and I have followed my heart every step of the way.

Our move to Cornwall gave me the biggest creative boast of all, I felt inspired by our new surroundings and began making Cornish Piskies, Pasties, Mackerel etc I added more rainbows and sea scapes to my illustrations and felt content. Cornwall gave my husband the changes he very much needed, with intense DBT therapy. I can’t thank the team enough, especially the commitment through lockdown. This gave him a new found confidence to pursue driving and landscape photography. You will find a stunning collection of prints in our shop which he is working to add to more this year.

So apart from the changes to what we make and do, the biggest change was the birth of our boy Lerryn. He had a challenging start but is now a thriving daredevil child who has completed our family. So we felt our branding needed to reflect these changes…

The name comes from what we call our kids- Lexi ‘Bear’ & Lerryn ‘Pickle’. My late father in law also used to called the kids ‘pickles’. The Cornish landscape of sea and forest features, as does the iconic engine house, which we love discovering on coast path walks. The clearer skies ahead. The central bear carries a Piskie and the whole vibe feels magical.
